Even though it was only my third day on the job, I decided to be brave and attempt an outing this morning with all four children.
Destination: local library.
I'm happy to report that the whole endeavor was a very smooth, calm, peaceful experience...relatively speaking.
At least, until the final 5 minutes.
After checking out our stack of books, I shifted the baby on my hip to accomodate draping both a diaper bag and a heavy book bag over my shoulder.
Ding-a-ling!
Of course, my phone had to ring right then.
Checking the number on the screen, I decided I should answer it since the number indicated a call from the childrens' father.
"Hello?" I said.
Right then, Hannah whispered, "You have to take your phone outside!"
Sure enough, there I was, answering my phone right in front of a little yellow sign stating, "Please turn off all cell phones or answer calls ouside." Oops.
"Can you hold on just a second?" I asked Mr. Goad.
Making sure Zion and Jessica had a firm grip on Hannah's elbows (since she was carrying a stack of books herself), and juggling a baby, two big bags, and a cell phone myself, we proceeded out the automatic doors, across the parking lot, and to the van. I learned that buckling a baby into a car seat while cradling a cell phone in my shoulder wasn't too hard and so the telephone conversation continued. I had to chuckle to myself when I learned that point of the call was simply to inform me regarding some leftovers in the fridge that we could have for lunch.
Leftovers I had already discovered four hours earlier that morning.
*smile*
I have to admit, that even including the final 5-minute 3-ring circus act, I was mighty pleased with the results of our first outing all together.
Next time, I'll be sure to give heed to important yellow signs wherever we go. :-)
