Isaac’s 4th Birthday

This little monkey turned 4 at the end of February!  I know this post about his birthday is VERY late in coming, but a new baby has a way of changing life up. Better late than never, right? :)
(A big thanks to my sister-in-law, Sarah, for many of the pictures you will see in this post!)

To celebrate, we had a Curious Georg themed birthday party with family and asked all the kids to come dressed up as their favorite book characters.
For our game of “Pin the Banana on George,” I made a big picture of George with the help of a projector and then painted it.  As it turned out, the light brown color I mixed dried as this nice off white...so I called him my caucasian monkey. :)

This was the color he was supposed to be.

For an afternoon snack before the party got fully underway and the children donned their costumes, they ate banana pops.

The dark chocolate coating made for some lovely black lips!

Then it was costume time!

Everyone took turns sharing about their chosen book character.  Here, Landon gets a little help from Mommy to tell us about the bear in Bear Snores On.

Lydia dressed up as Laura from the Little House on the Prairie books.

And of course, the birthday boy was none other than Curious George himself!

He loves to monkey around!

Sacagawea shared about her adventures traveling with Lewis and Clark.

Neil Armstrong describing his experiences in space.

The Man with the Yellow Hat had recently awakened from his nap, so he wasn’t exactly in much of a talking mode. However, in preparation for the party, he kept describing himself as the one who got to tell George what to do!

Next, we played some games!  Here, Isaac scores a point in the game, “Feed the Monkey.”  We also played ring toss with those yellow hats you see up on the mantel and Pin the Banana on George, of course! Finding hidden paper bunnies around the house was a hit too (taken from a portion of one of the Curious George books).

In addition to celebrating Isaac’s birthday that day, we also celebrated cousin Caleb’s birthday too.

My big 4 year old!

Everyone wanted a picture with Caucasian George. :)

Lastly, the monkey piñata was a lot of fun!  It was too cold and rainy to do outside, so Nathan rigged a spot in our garage instead.

After dinner, it was time for cake and banana pudding!  Isaac had requested lemon cake, so I tried my hand at making a healthy Trim Healthy Mama version. Unfortunately, the bag of baking blend I had ordered for the occasion turned out to be a bad batch, which made the cupcakes taste funny.  That’s what I get for trying to be healthy!

I used coconut sugar in the banana pudding in place of white sugar...so it turned out a weird brown color and texture.  Oops!  Oh well, you live and learn.  At least Adoniah enjoyed it!

After the party was over, the family helped take apart and pack up my father-in-law’s beautiful baby grand piano that we had been “babysitting” for him this last year.  He was ready for it back.  So now, we are in the market for a new piano to fill its place in our music room!

Farewell, oh beautiful piano.  We miss you!
