A Visit from the Brittons, Part 2

Time for a little sightseeing!
(Once again, the photos are courtesy of my mother and father-in-law!)

First stop: the earthships.

Earthships are homes designed to be entirely self-sustaining, operating "off the grid."  They are built out of recyclable materials, like old tires and tin cans, and equipped with their own water system, solar powered electricity, and heating and cooling methods.

Earthships also house green houses indoors to grow much of their own food.

This fancy one has a water fall in front of a fireplace.  Very cool!

One of the bedrooms.

The bathroom, decorated with old glass bottles.

Next stop: the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge...

...where the views are breathtaking!

Our little trooper!

Last stop: the mountains!  Here is the Taos Ski Valley closed up for the year until next winter, with only a little snow remaining.

Beautiful scenery!

And snow-capped peaks!

On our way back down the mountain, we stopped to enjoy the fresh air by a peaceful stream.

Trying out the frigid waters!

It was a fun family day!
